Port Ellen Silent Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery founded in 1825 by John Ramsay on Islay’s South coast. The distillery rebuilt in 1967 following a fire and then finally closed in 1983. All of the buildings demolished in the year 2000 with the exception of the maltings which were converted into apartments.
